Richard Bourland is the sole proprietor and lead craftsman at Mid South Bunk Beds. Richard started this business as a part-time endeavor but it quickly grew to a full time endeavor. He is a born and raised Memphian and lived in Texas for 10 years attending college and starting his career.
Richard’s background is in Information Technology. However for as long as he can remember, he has enjoyed projects involving wood and power tools’. Before starting his business he spent evenings and weekends building whatever he could and studied construction, carpentry and furniture design. He was introduced and became active in several non-profits pursuing his new trade. To this day, he continues to work with Habitat for Humanity, Service over Self and Advance Memphis.
His craftsmanship training has included: classes taught by Master Woodworkers at The Woodwork Shop, woodworking classes at Memphis College of Art, classes at Old English Furniture Company and professional carpentry apprenticeship training. Since going full time his beds have been shipped to states across the nation and listed in ABC’s made in America.
In addition to creating bunk beds and woodworking he fixes homes. For years he has been called on by friends and family to work on their “small” home improvement projects. The projects range in complexity from painting a room, framing a wall to fixing small electrical and plumbing issues. A list of his services can be found on his other website, Lone Star Home Improvement.
What this means to you is that you get to work with a highly motivated and passionate professional. His greatest pleasure is the opportunity to work with families who want quality furniture and design creative living spaces for their childrens bedrooms.
